The ACER INC. Grant provides essential funding to help local entrepreneurs scale their operations, modernize equipment, and improve their business infrastructure to drive long-term success.

Program Objectives

The overarching goal of this initiative is to catalyze local economic development. By offsetting the high costs of capital improvements, ACER aims to:

● Enhance Operational Efficiency: Transition businesses from manual or legacy systems to modern, digital workflows.

● Standardize Service Quality: Equipping businesses with professional-grade tools to compete with national franchises.

● Revitalize Commercial Corridors: Improving the physical “curb appeal” and safety of local business districts

Comprehensive Eligibility: Who Can Apply?

Our grant programs are designed to be inclusive and accessible. We welcome applications from all businesses within the state of Minnesota, with a special focus on supporting entrepreneurs from BIPOC communities (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color).

Business Identity & Location

  • Must Have a Business Name: Your business must have a legal name and evidence of operations
  • Must be in Minnesota: Your primary business operations must be within the State of Minnesota.

Business Stage & Paperwork

  • For New Businesses (Startups): You must have a clear business plan.
  • For Existing Businesses: Provide financial records or tax filings.

Mission Focus

  • We prioritize small and micro businesses in Minnesota.
  • We support underserved entrepreneurs.

Eligible Use of Funds

● Technology & Automation: POS systems, inventory management software, high-speed hardware, and cybersecurity upgrades.
● Professional Equipment: commercial kitchen appliances, specialized medical/salon equipment, and trade tools.
● Infrastructure & Aesthetics: Interior build-outs, HVAC upgrades, professional signage, and exterior facade improvements.
● Marketing Infrastructure: Professional photography for digital storefronts, website development, and branded environmental graphics.

Note: Grant funds typically cannot be used for payroll, existing debt service, or general operating expenses

The Technical Assistance (TA) Requirement

At ACER, we believe capital is most effective when paired with capacity building. Grant recipients are integrated into our Business Resource Hub, which includes:

● Financial Literacy Coaching: Guidance on bookkeeping and tax preparedness.
● Procurement Assistance: Help with vetting vendors for equipment and construction to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
● Strategic Marketing: One-on-one sessions to ensure the new infrastructure is leveraged to attract a wider customer base.

Phase I:

Inquiry:
Submission of the online interest form and basic business documentation.

Phase III:

Committee Review:
Evaluation by a selection committee based on community impact, financial viability, and project feasibility.

Phase II:

Consultation:
A diagnostic meeting with an ACER Business Advisor to refine the project scope.

Phase IV:

Award & Implementation:
Disbursement of funds (often via direct vendor payment) and project monitoring
