African Career Education & Resources, Inc. Programs
ACER is a community-based organization founded in 2008 in the northwest suburbs of the Twin Cities (Minnesota) that works with African immigrants and other BIPOC communities to increase civic power, economic opportunity, housing justice and health equity.
Through programs in voter & civic engagement, economic development (including support for micro-businesses), health equity, and housing justice, ACER helps build leadership from within the community and advocates for systemic change so that people of African heritage can lead thriving and prosperous lives.
Their approach emphasizes culturally-relevant solutions, community leadership, and bridging the gap between community needs and decision-making systems.
Our Programs
Voter and Civic Engagement
ACER empowers community members to engage in civic life, registering voters, promoting participation, and partnering with organizations to advance equity in local, state, and national policy.
Economic Development
Supporting the small and micro-businesses that are the economic backbone of BIPOC immigrant communities through resources, training, and culturally based wealth-building strategies.
Health Equity
Closing health disparities by addressing the social determinants of health through partnerships, education, and community organizing.
Housing Justice
Fighting housing inequities by organizing tenants, advancing policy, and promoting fair, affordable, and dignified housing.
Change Leaders Fellowship
A year-long, stipended leadership program for emerging community leaders working to dismantle housing injustice and systemic inequities.
